Mother's Day

The day was beautiful and perfect in every way, starting with a morning run to a surprise morning spa treatment at Spa Helani to the gorgeous beach/pool weather to the low-key local evening. Mother's Day in Maui. What could be better?

Catch Phrase

I started a new tab on our blog: Catch Phrase

I should have started this long ago, when Sophia started talking. But it's better late than never and Sophia talks non-stop now, so this should be interesting. Luckily I started an email account for Sophia when she was born so David and I could write to her about anything and everything. And just in case her account doesn't exist when she is ready to read those emails, I print them out and save them in a binder. Oh and then I go back and change the emails to being unread so they will always show up as new mail.

Sorry to say I haven't started an email account for Kalista, yet. Still trying to think of that perfect username. Okay maybe part of it is second child syndrome. Sophia's username is lilpotsticker. If you can think of something catchy for Kalista let me know!

Smith's

David is somewhat of a cookie snob. He only likes two kinds. The first, chocolate chip (absolutely NO NUTS). And not just any chocolate chip cookie. His all time favorite chocolate chip is from Hungry Bear Cookie (located in Fresno, Ca). Second would be from Portos Bakery. And last but not least comes from Renaud's.
David's second favorite cookie hails from Smith's. I'm not sure of this cookie's real name. We just call it 'Smiley Face Cookies.' When David's mom comes up for a visit, she always brings him a box full of these cheery delights. And David becomes one happy camper - such a mama's boy!

P.S. I know what you're thinking: It looks like a plain 'ol sugar cookie with glaze. Well it is a sugar cookie but it's the best sugar cookie ever. Soft yet dense but moist and oh so tasty.

Visit from Nana

Today we had a special visit from Nana (David's mom). Nana comes up to Santa Barbara every so often to see the girls and have dinner with us. It's a one day trip for Nana (the drive is about 2 1/2 hours) and it's one we all look forward to.

A New Bento

I really love the bento concept. It's a great way to pack a healthy, hearty lunch. It's all about the packaging, right? I have a drawer full of bento accessories, which include boxes, molds, mini forks, mini cutters, and well you get the picture. I especially like to draw or write something on the food, like a piece of cheese, with edible color markers. I saw this Hello Kitty bento box and had to buy it...for Sophia of course.
